Tea warmer Tropas - Pollopas

A Pollopas tea warmer - made by Tropas / Troisdorf - Germany, around 1930. Body Pollopas, lid metal with typical Art Deco-decor. Designed by Ludwig Koenig (attr.). Pollopas is a kind of early plastic which is based on phenol casting resin. It has similar qualities like bakelit, but it ws possible to produce it in brighter/ shiny colours. The production which was stopped in 1939 cost three to four times more than those of bakelite. Meanwhile, Pollopas-items (which are oftne outstanding in design and quality) belong to the rare examples of early plastics. - Height 2.8', quadratic surface 5.9' x 5.9'. The item is not marked underneath - but it is identical with the green one which we also have for sale.With original pressed glass container for tea light. Excellent condition. Rare!
