Kosta Boda Monica Backström Glass Mushroom 1970s Swedish Art Glass

An exceptional glass mushroom designed by Monica Backström for Kosta Boda, Sweden, dating from the 1970s.

During her long career at Kosta Boda, Monica Backström created a distinctive series of decorative mushroom sculptures in mouth-blown glass. This example, shaped like a boletus mushroom, features warm yellow tones with beautiful variations in colour.

The mushrooms were mouth-blown in clear glass and then rolled in coloured glass powder, giving each piece its own individual appearance and subtle variations in colour and surface.

The piece also looks particularly striking when illuminated from below, allowing the colours and texture of the glass to come to life.
